Poco F2 teased: Is the real Poco F1 successor finally on the way?

- Poco India has teased the Poco F2’s arrival.
- This comes a few months after the firm said a Poco F1 successor was in the works.
The Poco F1 is still one of the most beloved smartphones around, offering flagship power for ~$300 at launch. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi-affiliated brand hasn’t offered anything like that since then, either launching mid-range phones at this tier or flagship devices like the Poco F2 Pro that are significantly more expensive.
Poco confirmed back in October that it was working on a “true successor” to the Poco F1, and it’s now teased the so-called Poco F2 on Twitter. The company posted a video highlighting its achievements in 2020, but it also snuck in a reference to the Poco F2. Check out the screenshot below.

The company didn’t include any other details in the post, so we’re still in the dark regarding what we should expect from the upcoming smartphone. Conventional wisdom says that a “true successor” to the Poco F1 will offer flagship-level power at a similarly disruptive price tag. But a lot has changed in the smartphone space, as 5G components, high-end silicon, high refresh rate screens, and multiple cameras all contribute to increased prices.
In other words, we’re guessing that a Poco F2 positioned as a flagship will likely be more expensive than the Poco F1. It’s also possible that Poco achieves a similar price tag by making drastic cutbacks in other areas (e.g. design, screen, cameras), or by reverting to mid-range silicon. If the latter is the case, then is it really a true Poco F1 successor?

We asked, you told us: You really think the Xiaomi Mi 11 is hot

The Xiaomi Mi 11 debuted as the first Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone. Alongside Qualcomm’s latest silicon, it also packs a sizeable 6.8-inch OLED display, a 108MP snapper at the rear, and a 4,600mAh battery. But is this cocktail enough to win your nod of approval?
We asked readers to tell us if they think the new Xiaomi flagship is hot or not. Here’s what you told us.
What do you think of the Xiaomi Mi 11?
Results
We received nearly 2,500 votes on this one, and there’s an overwhelming consensus among readers — the Xiaomi Mi 11 is decidedly “hot.” Nearly 80% of the votes were in favor of the flagship, and it’s obvious to see why on paper.
The phone strikes a good balance between performance and affordability, especially considering flagship smartphones’ skyrocketing prices of late. And although an international price isn’t available just yet, it should be an admirable competitor to the likes of the Galaxy S21 series and OnePlus 9 line.
Read more: All the confirmed Snapdragon 888 smartphones thus far
Despite the phone’s extensive feature list and sticker price, some just aren’t warming up to the device. A little over 20% of voters don’t consider this phone “hot.” Some comments touch on the phone’s immense size and divisive styling as deterrents.
Here’s what you had to say
- Wongwhat: Another enormous phone and no zoom at all — pass.
- Eroticus: One really ugly phone after Mi 10 Ultra.
- @bobbylecat: I’m almost certain that they kept the pro version secret so they can launch it in March and create a new hype.
- @noellehyacinth: When will phone manufacturers understand that we don’t need screens pass 6.5-inches.
- @Andre_Arthur14: Actually looks pretty for today’s standards.
That’s it for this Xiaomi Mi 11 poll. Thanks for the votes and comments. If you have any additional thoughts about the phone or the poll results, be sure to drop them down below.

A new Galaxy awaits as Samsung reveals Galaxy S21 teaser
- Samsung has posted a teaser for the Galaxy S21 series.
- The video outlines the history of the Galaxy S family.
Samsung is widely expected to launch its Galaxy S21 series in mid-January, coming much earlier than previous smartphones in the family. Now, the company has posted a teaser video on YouTube, hinting that “a new Galaxy awaits.”
The video doesn’t tell us anything else really, as it charts the history of the Galaxy S series and the various design changes made with each iteration. The clip shows the devices going from thick bezels and physical home buttons to all-screen designs and punch-hole cutouts.
Aside from the aforementioned tagline, Samsung’s video also ends on a stylized “2021” date that potentially hints at the Galaxy S21 name. Check out a screenshot below.

We’re expecting to see three phones to debut next month, namely the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. But we already have a ton of apparent details thanks to leaks, ranging from core specs to pricing and availability.
Intrigued by these phones? Then you can already pre-register here if you’re in the US. Doing so will net you $50 in credit towards accessories or other Samsung goodies, while doing so via the Samsung Shop app gives you $10 extra for a total of $60 in credit.

Xiaomi Redmi 9T revealed via unboxing: It’s an upgraded Poco M3

- The all-new Redmi 9T has been revealed via an unofficial unboxing video.
- This is essentially a mildly upgraded version of the Poco M3.
2020 has seen the newly independent Poco brand release tweaked versions of existing Redmi phones, with the Poco X2 originally released as the Redmi K30 4G and the Poco F2 Pro previously launching in China as the Redmi K30 Pro.
Now, it looks like it’s Redmi’s turn to ape Poco, as the hitherto-unseen Redmi 9T has made an appearance in an unofficial unboxing video on YouTube. The video, by veteran tech journalist Myriam Joire, shows off a phone that’s essentially a Poco M3 with a few tweaks. Check it out below.
Probably the biggest change is in the camera arena, as the Redmi 9T offers a 48MP quad rear camera setup with a newly added 8MP ultra-wide camera. This is a noteworthy change from the Poco device, which offered a disappointing 48MP triple camera setup (main/depth/macro).
We also see a tweaked camera housing (see main image), as the Redmi device ditches the Poco M3’s distinctive camera housing in favor of a more traditional bump.
More Xiaomi coverage: Redmi general manager talks faster charging speeds, smaller phones, and more
Otherwise, Joire notes that the Redmi 9T has the same specs as the Poco phone. That means a 6.53-inch FHD+ LCD screen with a waterdrop notch, a Snapdragon 662 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a huge 6,000mAh battery, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Don’t expect NFC support though, much like the Poco device.
We’ve asked Xiaomi to clarify pricing, availability, and specs in general, and will update the article when we hear back from them. Nevertheless, the Poco M3 is already available in the likes of Europe, but it hasn’t hit India yet. So presumably the Redmi 9T is coming to the latter market in lieu of the Poco device.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Receiving Android 11-Based One UI 3.0 Update: Report
from Gadgets 360 https://ift.tt/2WWxO5d
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is now getting its Android 11 update (Updated)

Update: December 31, 2020 (12:30 AM ET): A little more than a week after One UI 3.0 arrived on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the 4G variant is now welcoming the update. Per a report by GSMArena, the Android 11-based update is rolling out to users in Europe and Nigeria right now.
Along with the latest version of Google’s mobile OS and Samsung’s newest iteration of its skin, the update also brings the December 2020 security patch to the flip phone.
It’s unclear when the update will be delivered in other regions of the globe, but we expect it to follow shortly.
Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series update hub! Here you’ll find all the latest information on software updates for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. We’ll tell you what the current software versions are for each device and also give you a heads up when new updates are rolling out.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Update
- Current stable version: Android 10
- When will the Galaxy Z Flip get Android 11? December 2020 (estimated)
Exactly a week into its launch, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4G is already receiving its first software update. It adds a camera feature that was previously missing from the foldable phone.
According to SamMobile, the new Galaxy Z Flip 4G software update is now rolling out in the US and brings the Single Take mode to the camera. The feature was supposed to be available on the phone out of the box. However, it looks like Samsung omitted to add it in time for shipping. This could be because the Z Flip is already in high demand and Samsung is pushing out as many units as it can, even if they don’t have the promised feature loaded upfront.
Nevertheless, the software update carrying the Single Take mode is reportedly rolling out to all unlocked Galaxy Z Flip 4G variants. The camera feature allows you to capture multiple photos and video clips from the two rear sensors at the same time. You can then go into the image gallery to choose your favourite shot or clip.

Alongside the new camera mode, the update adds the February 2020 security patch to the earlier Galaxy Z Flip model. There are some stability improvements and bug fixes also in there. You can download the OTA update from going into Settings > Software update on the phone.
In August 2020, Galaxy Z Flip 4G users received the One UI 2.5 update (version F700U1UEU2BTGE). This brought a number of features to the table, including a better pro video mode, an improved Samsung Keyboard, and the ability to request a Wi-Fi connection’s password.
One UI 3.0 finally arrived on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G model in December, bearing version number F707BXXU1CTL6. The Android 11-based skin initially rolled out in Switzerland.
Let us know which Galaxy Z Flip update you’re rocking in the comments. Also, feel free to tip us if you’ve spotted a recent update we’ve missed!

LG wants to use transparent OLED displays for ‘invisible’ bedroom TVs

- LG is using CES to show how its transparent OLEDs could be used in the real world.
- It envisions a “Smart Bed” where a transparent TV could sit at your feet.
- It’s still not clear when you might see this in mobile devices.
LG Display is still eager to make transparent OLED displays a practical reality, and it’s using CES 2021 to show just what might be possible. The company has designed a concept “Smart Bed” that would use a 55-inch transparent screen as a TV that effectively becomes invisible.
The transparent TV would sit in a frame you could place at the foot of your bed or even move around the home. You’d just have to press a button to have the transparent OLED rise from the frame and keep you entertained without backlights (or a background) interfering with the experience. Cinematic Sound OLED would pump out audio without requiring separate speakers.

LG also envisions using the 55-inch transparent OLED for restaurants (when they’re safe again) where you could watch TV while watching your chef prepare your meal. It would even be useful for subway trains, giving you a view outside at the same time as you check the route map or the weather.
Like LG’s earlier see-through OLEDs, the 55-inch model would thrive on a high 40% transparency level compared to ‘just’ 10% for LCDs. It could serve as a window replacement in smart homes or even self-driving cars, the company said.
Related: LG Display talks foldable and transparent screens
The company didn’t say if or when you’d see a transparent TV or similar products on store shelves, although there was reportedly “growing demand” from various industries.
Just don’t get your hopes up for a phone with a transparent OLED display, at least not yet. While transparent phones are nothing new (Sony Ericsson’s 2009-era Xperia Pureness is one example), a modern smartphone would need a way to hide the electronics behind a large screen while delivering comparable battery life and features. For now, at least, your phone will block your view of the outside world.

Stable One UI 3.0 rolls out to Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus users in Germany
Update: December 30, 2020 (2:30 AM ET): After three beta updates spanning nearly two months, Samsung is finally rolling out the stable One UI 3.0 update to Galaxy Note 10 Plus users in Germany.
Per SamMobile, the update includes firmware version N975FXXU6ETLL and includes the December 2020 Android security patch. It’s unclear when the Galaxy Note 10 will receive the update, but presumably it’s not far behind.
Original article: Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus update hub. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the latest Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus updates. That includes their current versions and when future updates are likely to arrive. Keep in mind that the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus generally receive their updates at the same time.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus update
- Current stable version: Android 10
- When will the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus get Android 11? December 2020 (estimated)
The Galaxy Note 10 line launched in August 2019 with the then-latest version of Android, Android 9 Pie. Like most Android flagships, these are expected to receive at least two major updates in their lifetimes.
The first confirmed major update is Android 10, which publicly launched toward the beginning of September. Soon after, Samsung began a beta program for its flagships, including the Note 10 line. This beta program lasted for a few months before Samsung started rolling out Android 10 in a stable form.
At this point, nearly every device in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 family, including the Star Wars model and the Sprint version, should have the Android 10 update. Any stragglers should get it by the end of January 2020. That update will include One UI 2.0, based on Android 10.
Samsung also beat Google to the punch with the January 2020 security patch, rolling it out to the Note 10 before Google rolled it out to the Pixel 4. Samsung’s update game has been on point lately, and the Note 10 is its sixth device to get the latest security patch.
According to a few Reddit posts, Canadian Galaxy Note 10 devices began receiving the latest Android 10-powered One UI 2.0 update January 6. Devices on carriers Telus, Bell, Rogers, and Sasktel received the update first, and other carrier devices followed suit shortly.
Two days later, a tipster over at Android Police let the world know Samsung began pushing out the latest stable Android 10 update to unlocked Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G devices in the UK. That same day, we also saw the update roll out to Indonesian variants of the Note 10 series thanks to a post on Reddit.
The March 2020 security update officially rolled out to Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus devices in the first week of March. It landed on devices in the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, and Hungary. The update didn’t introduce anything particularly exciting, but improved security is always welcome.
On April 21, Samsung made Galaxy S20 camera features available on Canadian Note 10 devices. The features included: Single Take Mode, Night Hyperlapse, custom filters, Pro Video Mode, and more. The update also introduced new Quick Share and Music share functionality to the phones. Quick Share lets Galaxy Note 10 users easily share photos, videos, and other large files with contacts nearby, while Music share lets others play their music on Bluetooth devices connected to your Galaxy Note 10. You can read more details about the new camera features here.
On June 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 phones started receiving the June 2020 security patches (via SamMobile). The patch rollout started a few days before with Qualcomm-based devices here in the United States, but it then started rolling out globally, including to Exynos-based models. This new update didn’t just feature the June 2020 security patch but also a new feature: a “Call and text on other devices” quick toggle. Paired with another Samsung device (such as a tablet), this feature will allow you to easily take calls/texts on the secondary device.
In July, Samsung rolled out the July 2020 security update for Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus devices (as reported by SamMobile). The over-the-air upgrades for the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus featured build numbers N970FXXS5CTFA and N975FXXS5CTFA respectively. These updates only bumped the security of the devices up to July 1, and they didn’t come with any other features.
Samsung rolled out the One UI 2.5 update to the Note 10 family (including the Lite and 5G models) in September 2020, SamMobile reported. This version of Samsung’s custom Android skin brought a slew of new features, including Wireless DeX support, new Pro video camera features, added options in Samsung keyboard, and much more. You can view the full list of all major One UI 2.5 features here.
In November, Samsung started pushing out the One UI 3.0 beta update to the Galaxy Note 10 series. The phones received two One UI 3.0 updates in the month.
The third One UI 3.0 beta update made its debut on the Note 10 series in mid-December. The update brought with it fixes to the camera app, home screen launcher, and fingerprint unlocking issues.

Leak: Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro in the works, could feature same screen as Mi 11

- Xiaomi is apparently readying a Mi 11 Pro as well.
- The phone is said to feature the same screen specs as the standard model.
Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 earlier this week, making for a solid upgrade in theory over the standard Mi 10. The Mi 10 Pro was also released earlier this year, but Xiaomi didn’t mention a Mi 11 Pro at Tuesday’s launch event.
Now, Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has suggested that a Mi 11 Pro is indeed coming. More specifically, the leaker alleges that the Pro variant has “exactly the same” screen specs as the standard model. Check out the screenshot below.

The leaker also claimed in a previous comment that the standard and Pro models wouldn’t launch together and that the standard variant would be the only option available before the Spring Festival (held in mid-February). In other words, it’s suggested that a Pro model would be available thereafter.
The vanilla Mi 11 packs a QHD+ OLED screen for the first time since 2016’s Mi Note Pro. But it also offers a 120Hz refresh rate, punch-hole cutout, and Gorilla Glass Victus. So if the tipster is correct about the Pro model’s existence and screen details, then it could deliver a great display experience on paper too.
We’ve asked Xiaomi for comment regarding the existence of the Mi 11 Pro and will update the article if/when they get back to us. Nevertheless, we’d expect a Pro model to feature faster wired charging and telephoto cameras, among other upgrades.
Digital Chat Station also asserts that Xiaomi is working on a new phone with an under-screen selfie camera. This wouldn’t be a surprise, as the manufacturer confirmed in August that it will be mass-producing phones with this tech in 2021.
What would you want to see from a Mi 11 Pro? Let us know by taking the poll further up the page!

Asus Zenfone 6 gets Android 11 update in one market

Update: December 29 2020 (2:20 AM ET): We’re but a couple of days away from the end of the year, but Asus has indeed brought Android 11 to the Zenfone 6. XDA-Developers spotted an official forum post noting that Android 11 is now rolling out to the device in its home market of Taiwan. The update has the version number 18.0610.2011.107.
You can check out some of the tweaks in the machine-translated changelog below.
System optimization
- Upgrade system to Android 11
- Remove private listening, ZenUI Help and one-handed mode
- The power expert function is integrated into the battery setting. Remove Avast scan engine
- The desktop removes options such as smart classification, alignment icons, and icon packages. Click on a blank area of the screen to organize application software icons across pages.
- Import the new ZenUI interface design
- Adjust the quick setting panel interface and support media control. Remove the multi-window entrance, and add adjacent sharing options (need to manually add)
- The “Wi-Fi automatic download and installation” setting of the system update is turned on by default
- Third-party desktop supports the use of full-screen gestures
There’s no word on when this update will be coming to other markets, but presumably it isn’t far behind Taiwan’s rollout then. What would you like to see addressed in future Zenfone 6 updates though? Let us know in the comments!
Original article: May 28 2019 (1:57 AM ET): Welcome to the Asus Zenfone 6 updates hub. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about the latest Android updates for the device, including past and future software versions.
The Zenfone 6 runs the ZenUI Android skin, which is the Taiwanese firm’s own take on Android. Got this phone? Then be sure to bookmark this page for the latest updates.
Asus Zenfone 6 updates
- Current stable version: Android 10
- When will the Zenfone 6 get Android 11: Q4 2020 or Q1 2021 (estimated)
The Zenfone 6 launched in May 2019 with Android Pie, and it got Android 10 in November of that year (see further down the page). We’re expecting the phone to get one more major Android version update as a result (namely Android 11).
Asus pushed out one of the phone’s first major updates in late May (h/t: XDA), with version number 16.1210.1904.115. This update delivered improved speed and quality when taking Super Night or HDR+ Enhanced photos. It also brought improved “camera rotation stability,” let you use the smart key as a camera shutter button, and allowed you to use the volume keys to rotate the flip camera (you can also assign the keys to control the shutter or zoom).
The next big update for the Zenfone 6 was the Android 10 update on November 4 2019. This update (17.1810.1910.63) initially launched in the US and India before spreading out to other markets. Expect the usual Android 10 goodies such as expanded gesture navigation, Smart Reply functionality, and Google Play System Update functionality (ostensibly related to Project Mainline).
Asus started a limited Android 11 beta program in August 2020, giving hope that the stable update would actually launch in the coming months.
Let us know which Zenfone 6 update you’re rocking in the comments, and if you’ve spotted a recent update we’ve missed, tip us!

Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Everything we know so far (Updated: Dec. 29)

Update: December 29, 2020 (1:05 AM ET): We’ve updated the Samsung Galaxy S21 rumor hub with new info about preorders for those in the US, details on S Pen support, and more. Read on for the latest.
Believe it or not, we are in the final days of 2020. That means we’re only about a month away from the launch of the next entry in Samsung’s flagship smartphone line, the Galaxy S21 series.
There are now many solid rumors about the devices, including full-blown leaks revealing the specs and renders of the upcoming phones. We also can make confident assumptions about certain aspects based on the history of the line. What we know so far is chronicled in our roundup below.
As usual, be sure to bookmark this page so you’re always up-to-date on the latest info surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S21 phones!
Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Name and release date

Previously, there were conflicting rumors related to the names of the phones. We originally thought it could be the Samsung Galaxy S30 series, but new rumors support that the line will be known as the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.

As far as a release date goes, we naturally assumed Samsung would announce the phones in mid-February 2021. That’s the timeframe in which the company has launched every iteration of the Galaxy S series since the Galaxy S9. However, we now know that Samsung will launch the phones much earlier than usual.
On December 10, Android Authority confirmed in a phone call to Samsung’s largest Indian branch — Samsung’s Opera House outlet in Bengaluru — that the series will make its global debut on January 14, 2021. However, you’ll need to wait until January 29 to get your hands on the devices. The outlet also confirmed a number of other details which we cover below.
Models and designs
In 2020, we saw the introduction of the Ultra moniker within Samsung’s flagship phone line with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. With the successive launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, it was a safe bet that Sammy would once again launch an Ultra variant in the Galaxy S21 family.
We can now confirm that there will be three models in the lineup, namely the standard Galaxy S21, the Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Judging by leaked renders of the Galaxy S21 lineup, the three phones look almost identical, albeit for a few minor differences. The vanilla Galaxy S21 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch screen while the S21 Plus is rumored to get a 6.7-inch display and the S21 Ultra is purported to come with a 6.9-inch screen.
We still don’t have confirmation on the devices’ dimensions, but the standard Samsung Galaxy S21 is rumored to measure 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm. It could feature a 6.2-inch flat display with a centered punch hole. There are three cameras on the back of the phone as pictured in the renders below courtesy of Evan Blass:

With the Galaxy S21 Plus, we don’t know the dimensions quite yet (although it will obviously be bigger than the vanilla variant). We can go one better than a render, though. A brief marketing loop uncovered on December 8 (via Android Police) revealed a possible two-tone design for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. The below GIF is of the Galaxy S21 Plus, featuring a purple paint job with bronze accents. The colorway options for all three devices will be covered at the foot of this section.

We also got a good look at the Galaxy S21 Plus in an “unofficial review” video. You can see the phone from all angles in the video which also reveals some key specs of the phone.
As for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the most up-to-date renders suggest there could be a whole slew of lenses on the back:

Real-world shots of the Galaxy S21 Ultra also leaked on December 7 via YouTuber Sakitech, almost matching the renders above curve-for-curve.
Samsung’s Opera House outlet also confirmed the colorway availability across the Galaxy S21 line, which was later backed up by WinFuture. The vanilla S21 will be available in gray/black, pink, purple, and white. For Plus buyers, the options are silver, gray/black, and purple. Finally, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will get two colorways, namely gray/black and silver.
Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Specs and features

An extensive leak by Android Police in mid-November revealed all the key specs for the Galaxy S21 series. It suggested that the phones would run the Snapdragon 875 — now confirmed to be the Snapdragon 888 — in some regions, and Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2100 in others.
On December 10, Samsung’s Opera House outlet confirmed to Android Authority that the Indian Galaxy S21 series devices will be powered by the Exynos 2100, confirming the chip’s existence. A recent FCC listing also confirmed the Galaxy S21’s US models will sport Snapdragon 888 silicon.

All phones are rumored to get a 120Hz refresh rate. However, we’re not certain if that refresh rate will work even at the highest display resolutions. The Ultra phone is believed to support Samsung’s S Pen but may not include the stylus in the box.
We can also go ahead and assume that none of the specs of the Galaxy S20 series will see a downgrade. That means no phone should have less than 12GB of RAM or less than 128GB of internal storage. Here are the rumored storage sizes as leaked by WinFuture:
- Samsung Galaxy S21 — 128GB, 256GB
- Galaxy S21 Plus — 128GB, 256GB
- Galaxy S21 Ultra — 128GB, 256GB, 512GB
Per an extensive WinFuture leak on December 26, the Galaxy S21 is said to sport a 6.2-inch display while the S21 Plus wears a 6.7-inch screen. Both displays bear 2,400 x 1,080 pixels with a 120Hz refresh rate. Gorilla Glass Victus makes an appearance on both. The phones are also said to also pack an IP68 rating, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 6 support.
Battery and power
According to the Android Police leak, the Galaxy S21 is set to house a 4,000mAh battery. The S21 Plus could have a 4,800mAh battery. WinFuture‘s December 26 leak reiterates these capacities, too.
The S21 Ultra will probably have the same 5,000mAh battery as its predecessor. The battery capacity of the top-of-the-line Ultra model was also corroborated by a spec leak from WinFuture.
Somewhat related to the battery, we also have rumors that ultra-fast wired charging could be on-hand for the series. It’s possible Samsung could introduce 65W charging speeds to the Galaxy S line. This makes sense as OnePlus just launched the OnePlus 8T, which has this feature. However, there is evidence to suggest that not all variants of the line will have it. If that’s true, it’s likely the Galaxy S21 Ultra would get it exclusively. It’s also possible, though, that all the phones will have the option, but only the Ultra will have the in-box charger capable of delivering those speeds.
A rumor in October claimed that Samsung could drop the in-box chargers for all the phones in the line, just like Apple did with the iPhone 12 lineup. This has now been corroborated by journalist Roland Quandt, at least for the European region. “No, your European Samsung Galaxy S21 (all of them) will not come with a charger in the box,” he tweeted. Quandt added that there also won’t be any headphones or a cover in the box.
Samsung Galaxy S21 camera systems

The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus will reportedly have matching rear camera setups. WinFuture‘s December 26 leak suggests the phones will wear a 12MP primary camera alongside a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. Joining the duo is a 64MP sensor for telephoto duties. Up front, a 10MP selfie camera is said to feature. Video shooting features are set to include 8K recording at 30fps, 4K at 60fps, and 1080p video at up to 240fps.
Per details from Samsung’s Opera House store, we can confirm some of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra’s cameras. Allegedly, it will employ a second-generation 108MP main camera and two 10MP sensors. One of those telephoto lenses will sport 10x optical zoom. Earlier rumors also point to a fourth sensor on the Ultra, namely a 12MP wide-angle snapper. The system will also sport laser autofocus. These camera specs were also corroborated in another leak by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt.

The phones can apparently record videos from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. All of them are rumored to support 4K video recording at 60fps and 8K recording at 30fps.
Finally, we have a rumor related to a feature that likely won’t be in the Galaxy S21 series: in-display selfie cameras. Allegedly, Samsung wasn’t able to meet the production demands necessary to include this new technology in the Galaxy S phones. Instead, Samsung could push that feature to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
S Pen support?
Rumors that the Galaxy S21 series could support the famous S Pen stylus that comes with Galaxy Note phones have been mounting for some time. Now, an FCC listing spotted on December 23 all but confirms this.
Alongside the usual writing and tapping functionality, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will sport some of the Galaxy Note series’ S Pen smarts like hover and click. There’s no mention of support for Air Actions, which means the Note series may still hold on to some unique software features.
It’s unclear if the S Pen will be bundled with the phone itself. Word also has it that Samsung will shutter the Note line and S Pen will remain an optional accessory for the S21 Ultra and so-called Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Miscellaneous
Although it’s probably not going to make-or-break anyone’s buying decisions, there is a rumor that Samsung could allow you to use Google Discover in place of Bixby’s home screen. This would be a nice move as most people prefer Discover to other attempts at duplicating it. We’ll need to wait and see how this pans out.
Pricing and availability

Every year since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9, the company has raised the introductory pricing of its phones. One would expect that trend to continue in 2021 with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
However, a recent report suggests that pricing could actually go down in 2021 as compared to 2020. According to initial rumors, these could be the lowest starting prices for each phone in the line:
- $849 — Galaxy S21
- $1,049 — Galaxy S21 Plus
- $1,249 — Galaxy S21 Ultra
Prices for the Galaxy S21 series were also revealed in another leak from tipsters Ishan Agarwal and 91Mobiles. They too suggest lower starting prices for the Galaxy S21 and the S21 Plus. However, the S21 Ultra is tipped to be that much more expensive. These are the European prices revealed in that leak.
- Samsung Galaxy S21 128GB: €849
- Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus 128GB: €1,049
- Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus 256GB: €1,099
- Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 128GB: €1,399
Please note that those prices are not confirmed. They might vary in different parts of Europe depending on local taxes.
As far as availability goes, we should see Samsung open pre-orders around most of the world on launch day, January 14. Usually, devices would then be available for general purchase on a Friday two weeks later, or January 29.
Finally, in 2020, Samsung released some 4G-only variants of its flagships in various parts of the world. Tipsters Ishan Agarwal and 91Mobiles claim that Samsung will launch 5G versions of the S21 phones in India. Currently, India doesn’t have a 5G network. This suggests the trend of 4G-only variants might not happen in 2021.
Samsung Galaxy S21 preorders
If you reside in the US, you can now pre-order and reserve your Galaxy S21 series device. Pre-ordering comes with a few added bonuses, too. For starters, Samsung will award those who sign-up for pre-order notifications $50 in credits towards accessories for their future phone. Additionally, $10 extra will be handed out to those who sign up via the Samsung Shop app.
Trade-in options are also available. If you own a Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 device, you can gain up to $700 in credit towards a Galaxy S21 series device when trading it in.
The pre-order program is live until January 28, 2021. If you want to snag those credit offers, you’ll need to reserve your phone by 11:59 AM ET on January 13, 2021, and complete your pre-order between 14 and 28 January, 2021.
