New Xiaomi 11T series render leaks: Triple rear cameras, colorways on show
- An official-looking render of Xiaomi’s upcoming 11T series has leaked.
- The phones could seemingly sport similar styling with internal differences.
- Xiaomi is due to host a launch event on September 15.
We’ve seen leaked specs and little else relating to the forthcoming Xiaomi 11T series. However, a new official-looking render may have given us the best look at the devices yet.
Stemming from 91Mobiles and leaker Ishan Agarwal, the render was reportedly sourced from an over-eager retail listing of the devices. The report suggests that while the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro may include different core specs, but they could share similar styling.
So what are the most apparent physical features? Well, a blacked-out camera array houses three cameras at the rear. Two are larger than the third, while an ovular flash sits alongside the middle sensor. The camera branding is also visible, pointing to a 108MP main camera. While 91Mobiles believes both phones could sport a 108MP sensor, previous leaks suggest that the 11T may arrive with a 64MP OmniVision sensor instead. That same leak suggests an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 3x telemacro shooter could also feature on the device.

Other details to note are a center-mounted punch-hole shooter up front, a slim loudspeaker running along the bezel just above it, and a volume rocker/power button set on the phone’s right-hand flank. Colorways on show include Meteorite Gray, Celestial Blue, and Moonlight White.
Beyond the design, previous leaks have shed light on the phones’ internals. The Xiaomi 11T is said to bring a MediaTek SoC. Its Pro sibling is rumored to include a Snapdragon 888 SoC with 120W charging and a 5,000mAh battery. Both phones are believed to wear 120Hz OLED panels.
Xiaomi is hosting a launch event on September 15 which could see the debut of the firm’s 11T series, too.

Fresh leak gives out Google Pixel 6 series pre-order and release dates

- There’s still no word on an official launch date, but a September reveal seems unlikely.
A fresh leak from Jon Prosser over at FrontPageTech suggests that the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro may not launch in September after all.
According to the information obtained by the tipster, Google will open pre-orders for the Pixel 6 series on October 19. The phones would eventually go on sale and hit store shelves the following week, on October 28.
Prosser claims that these details come from a few of his best industry sources. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the September 13 launch date recently tipped on Weibo is completely out of the question. The Pixel 5 was also announced in September last year. However, if the October 19 pre-order date is accurate, as Prosser insists, it could very well be the day Google announces the Pixel 6 duo.
Alternatively, if Google makes the new Pixels official in September, it would mean a month-long wait for buyers who want to pre-book the devices. The company usually doesn’t have that big a gap between smartphone announcements and market availability.
Nevertheless, with this new leak, it seems Google will wait out the new iPhone 13 series before bringing its flagships to market. But we won’t know for sure until we hear from the company itself. Only 18% of US Android users would even consider iPhone 13, says report

- An Android loyalty survey points to only 18.3% of United States Android users being interested in the next iPhone.
- This number is actually down by a whopping 14.8% from this time last year.
- The lack of features Android users care about is cited as the main reason for the dismal interest.
The next slate of iPhones — tentatively known as the iPhone 13 series — is coming up quickly, likely launching in September. As with every year, this gets some folks wondering: how many Android users are planning to jump ship?
According to a new survey from SellCell, not too many. The used technology service asked over 5,000 Android users based in the United States if they were interested in the iPhone 13. A whopping 81.7% said “Nah.”

That leaves just 18.3% who are even considering ending their Android loyalty streak. Interestingly, SellCell conducted a similar survey last year that found nearly 33% of Android users were considering an iPhone. That’s a drop of nearly 15% in just one year.

What happened? Why are so few Android users in the US thinking about switching? According to the survey, most users aren’t interested in losing their fingerprint sensor, as iPhone 13 phones are widely expected to continue to solely rely on Face ID. This makes sense when you consider we’re still in the midst of a global pandemic. Even if Face ID could work well while the user has a mask on, a fingerprint sensor is obviously superior.
The next most prominent reason is the lack of customizability within iOS. And, in third place, is the iCloud photo scanning controversy, in which Apple scans user photos in an effort to hunt down child abuse and exploitation.

Of course, the real question is whether or not the issues Android users have will trickle over to iPhone users this year. Will there be a surge of folks switching to Android? We’ll need to wait and see.

We asked, you told us: Here’s how you prefer adjusting your phone’s brightness

Smartphones have for long had the ability to auto-adjust the screen brightness. Most phones offer the ability to automatically tweak display brightness based on ambient lighting conditions, while some also offer adaptive brightness that changes per your usage patterns. However, manually adjusting brightness is still an option on all devices, giving users the flexibility to adjust levels as per their usage.
In a recent poll, we asked our readers which method they prefer the most. Do they set their phones on auto-brightness, or do they change brightness manually? Here’s how they voted and what they had to say.

Results
We received a total of 5,775 votes in our poll. It seems all three options — automatic brightness, manual brightness, and automatic brightness with manual tweaks — have an almost equal number of takers. However, a majority of voters (39.64%) prefer adjusting the screen brightness of their phones manually. This is understandable because different activities like streaming, gaming, reading, etc usually require different brightness levels, and it’s easy to adjust that from the quick settings menu on most devices. Some people might also be manually tweaking brightness when their phones have low battery.
Meanwhile, 30% of the voters rely on automatic brightness to do the job for them. An almost similar number of people also use automatic brightness paired with some manual adjustments. So even while manual brightness won this contest by a small margin, auto-brightness options are still very attractive to our readers.

Brett: I go auto-brightness then tweak it if I need to. Most of the time I just let it do its job.
Kossay Zemzem: I tried automatic brightness once or twice and felt like it either makes my screen too bright or too dim. It can also be related to me subconsciously wanting to be in control of my phone.
Chris_Peter: I can’t stand when brightness is constantly changing while I’m reading something on my phone.
SS03: Auto-brightness helps a lot, especially for people with high power spectacles like myself who do not like sudden bursts of light or putting strain on the eyes. Also, manual adjustment is just cumbersome.

Daniel D: I cannot understand people that do not use auto-brightness. I’ve seen one of my sisters-in-law doing it a couple of times on her Moto G4 and I’ve got cold shivers. If I’d have to do it all the time, it would probably be the main thing I’m doing with my phone. Oh, and yes, sometimes I’m tweaking the auto setting: at night when it doesn’t go all the way to a minimum and then I also add a dimming app, or when I play a game with a dark scene and I want to make sure I see everything.
rslh: Old phone, but the Pixel 3a XL has an excellent auto-brightness capability!
Staicu: I never used the automatic one, don’t see the purpose of it tbh, I can finetune it myself fine.
Shizuma: Auto with manual adjustment since it seems no manufacturer has released that in a completely dark room, the screen should be at min brightness, not like 50% brightness to blind you the second you turn on your phone.
Edrine Nollan Winchester: Auto is good, I only hate it when I am playing CODM when it turns it all down and I have to pull down the notif panel to switch it up again, but all in all, it’s good for me.

Xiaomi CC11 specs tipped: Will it come to global markets though?

Xiaomi’s CC series has generally been a design and selfie-focused smartphone line, but these devices are limited to China and we haven’t seen new entries in over a year. Now, leaks out of China point to the CC11 being set for an imminent launch.
Weibo tipster Bald Panda posted apparent Xiaomi CC11 specs today, claiming that it’s equipped with a Snapdragon 778G chipset, a 6.55-inch 90Hz OLED panel, and a 4,200mAh battery with 33W charging. The leaker also claims that you’re getting a 64MP triple rear camera system and a 20MP selfie snapper.

A TENAA listing spotted by MySmartPrice also suggests the Xiaomi CC11 will offer 6/8/12GB of RAM, 128/256/512GB of storage, and microSD expansion.
The listing also seems to corroborate some of the tipster’s disclosed specs. More specifically, the filing reveals a 2.4GHz octa-core chipset (the same specs as the Snapdragon 778G) as well as a 64MP primary camera and a 20MP selfie shooter.
The big question is whether this phone will actually leave China though, and this is where prior models come in. The Android One-toting Mi A3 is essentially the Mi CC9e with stock Android and a slightly bigger screen, but with an identical spec sheet otherwise. Furthermore, the Mi CC9 Pro left China and was known as the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro in global markets.
In other words, there is a precedent for Xiaomi CC phones to launch as Mi Note devices or Mi A series phones in other regions. But we haven’t seen many Android One devices in the last two years, so we wouldn’t count on the latter. It’s also possible that if Xiaomi does indeed bring the phone to wider markets, it goes under a different name altogether.

This official Samsung app turns the Galaxy Watch 4 into a walkie talkie

- Samsung has rolled out its WalkieTalkie app to the Galaxy Watch 4 series.
- The app allows owners of the wearables to communicate via a push-to-talk system.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic went official just a few weeks ago. Both devices run Wear OS 3 giving them access to a host of apps on the Google Play Store. Now, adding to this utility, Samsung has launched an official Walkie Talkie app (h/t XDA).
As the name suggests, the app effectively turns the new smartwatches into push-to-talk walkie talkies. The app lets users create channels and engage in “instant conversations” with others on their Contacts list. Those contacts will also need a Galaxy Watch 4, though. It’s also an official Samsung app, so you’ll need a Samsung account to make use of it.

Samsung doesn’t clarify the app’s range of operation, so there’s no telling if the Walkie Talkie app will be of any use to hikers or those seeking a backup communication medium. Samsung recommends first using the app “while the Watch is connected to your smartphone” suggesting that it will operate independently once set up. The app also asks users for optional location access which is used to “create your channel by searching nearby friends through Bluetooth.”
Of course, if you don’t like talking to your watch you can always just pick up your phone and call that contact, but where’s the fun in that?

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be the latest victim of the global chip shortage

We recently heard from a tipster that Samsung could launch the highly-anticipated Galaxy S21 FE on September 9. However, a fresh report from The Elec suggests that might not happen.
According to the South Korean publication, the Galaxy S21 FE was originally scheduled to hit mass production in the first half of the year. Sales of the phone were planned for the third quarter. However, that overall schedule apparently got delayed by four months because of the global chip shortage. Samsung is now expected to start mass-producing the S21 FE in September. This means its actual availability could stretch to October or November.
An earlier report had also suggested that Samsung could push the Galaxy S21 FE launch to October because the company wanted to focus its marketing efforts on its foldable phones. Another report in June suggested that Samsung halted the production of the phone altogether, but the company dismissed it as speculation.
Apart from a possibly delayed launch, the latest report indicates that Samsung has cut shipment targets for the Galaxy S21 FE due to chip shortage. The unavailability of SoCs has forced the company to decrease shipments by three million units, from the initial target of mid-10 million units to the early 10 million units.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also getting ready for the Galaxy S22 launch next year. The report notes that the flagships could release in January, just like their predecessors. Samsung is expected to start producing parts for the S22 series in November.

Samsung shows off double-folding Galaxy Fold prototype, and it’s a long boi

- It would likely be years before we’d see this as a real sellable product.
We’re now officially on our third generation of foldable phones from Samsung. However, everything we’ve seen from the company (and its competitors) so far has only folded over once. Why not have two folds?
Samsung appears to have that in the works (h/t SlashGear). A new Samsung foldable prototype is currently on display at IMID 2021 (the International Meeting for Information Displays). You can see the device up above, or check out the YouTube video below:
Unfortunately, the video doesn’t show the device actually folding. However, it’s clear it is based on the design of existing Galaxy Z Fold devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 3, so it’s easy enough to use your imagination.
If you’ll remember, Samsung showed off a very early design prototype of this in May. However, that prototype was essentially a mock-up that didn’t actually work. The video above shows this Samsung foldable prototype does, in fact, work, which is major progress in a very short time.

Samsung is calling this foldable technology “multi-foldable” and is referring to this specific product as the Samsung Flex In & Out. Obviously, that would not be the market name if this ever even makes it to market.
Speaking of which, don’t hold your breath about getting a Samsung foldable phone like this any time soon. It will likely be years before this lands in stores — if it ever does at all.
