The best vertical mice for wrist comfort in 2021
A good vertical computer mouse can alleviate discomfort caused by long-term computer usage. The best vertical mice will put your hand in what’s called a “handshake position,” which is a naturally comfortable resting position for our hands. Let’s take a look at the best vertical mice.
The best vertical mice
While the vertical form factor offers unmatched comfort, vertical mice aren’t particularly mainstream. Many of us are used to regular mice that have our hands closer to our desks, or ergonomic mice, with curves to fit our palms. In this list, there are a few brands that stand out in this area of the market, especially for those suffering from carpal tunnel.

From the Vault: As the streaming space keeps growing, massive studio catalogs are becoming more and more available. These include lost and forgotten gems, so-bad-it’s-good duds, and just plain weird pieces of film history. And you probably won’t find them by waiting for streamers to put them in front of you. In From the Vault, Android Authority aims to rescue these titles from the algorithm graveyard and help you get more out of your streaming subscriptions.

Want more movies and shows like Squid Game? Add these to your queue
Have you watched Netflix‘s smash hit Squid Game? The South Korean show has drawn a massive global audience, rising to the number one spot on the streaming platform in a matter of days. So, you’re in good company. But once you’ve finished it, what to watch after Squid Game is probably the question on a lot of people’s minds. So, what are some movies or shows like Squid Game?
Squid Game follows a group of contestants participating in a series of games for a huge cash prize. There’s a catch though. If you lose one of the games, you die. It’s brutal, bloody, and a whole lot of twisted fun.

Nothing Ear 1 review: Was the hype all for nothing?
The saturated true wireless earbuds market has a new competitor in the ring — Nothing. Utilizing increasingly affordable wireless earbud tech, the company promises a lot with its inaugural product. You get active noise-cancellation (ANC), a water-resistant build, and software support all for under $100.
Started by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, Nothing has backing from tons of big players in the tech space, from Google Ventures to Casey Neistat, Tony Fadell, and Kevin Lin. We put the Nothing Ear 1 through their paces to determine whether or not the earbuds live up to the hype.

Is cable TV dying? Here’s what streaming’s takeover might actually look like
Is cable TV dying? It sounds like a simple enough question. You don’t need a media degree to recognize that the TV landscape has been changing dramatically for over a decade. Cable and broadcast TV exist alongside alternatives to cable like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and more. In many cases, people have cut the cord outright, opting to get all of their TV needs met online.
But what does it actually mean to kill cable off and switch to a streaming-only ecosystem? Is streaming just giving us the same thing cable used to, or are we losing something in the process?

Apple iPhone 13 Pro review second opinion: Striving for perfection
Change for the sake of change rarely leads to tangible improvements. It takes deliberate action to craft something that truly builds upon a solid base and elevates it to new levels. It might sound a bit high and mighty for a mass-market consumer electronics brand to claim careful craftsmanship, but if there’s one company that can claim to come close, it’s Apple.
Sure, skeptics might go as far as saying that Apple’s minimal effort strategy to incrementally improve the iPhone is a ploy to maximize profits, but I disagree. Despite being fully immersed in the world of some of the best Android phones, it is clear even to me that Apple isn’t chasing feature completionism.

Our $1,000 phones deserve better cases
For as long as phones have existed, case makers have been trying to capitalize on that market by offering protection and personalization. You buy a new phone, you buy a new case, the two go together hand in hand. But as smartphones slowly got out of their proverbial shell; dusted off their boring white and black plastic from the early 2010s; and donned new shiny, matte, metallic, glassy, colorful, or elegant attire; cases have been stuck in the same mold.
Brands pop up left and right, but the ideas are the same recycled ones: hard shell or soft case, plastic or leather or thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), black or transparent. Compared to smartphones, very little imagination goes into case making, and there’s a certain status quo that many brands seem to be content with. I’ve reached a point where I feel bad about spending close to a thousand dollars on an expensive phone (such as my newly acquired Pixel 6 Pro) only to carry it around in a case that shows none of its polished design elements.

Change my mind: Detachable Chromebooks are better mobile computers than any iPad
Some of you might read the title and scoff at the idea of Chromebooks competing with any modern-day iPad. I once thought along those lines too, before I got hands-on with the Lenovo Duet — a Chromebook with a detachable keyboard/trackpad accessory included in the box.
A week or so ago, I tried out iPadOS 15 on the 2020 iPad Air for the first time. After using the Duet as my primary writing machine, I expected to be blown away. The iPad has a lot going for it hardware-wise, including a still-unbeaten SoC. And, of course, this particular iPad costs nearly three times as much as the Duet once you factor in Apple’s Magic Keyboard.

Liked Squid Game? Check out these other movies from its creator
Credit: Netflix
Have you watched Squid Game yet? The Netflix original series out of South Korea has been a massive sleeper hit, becoming the most-streamed program on the platform in over 94 countries since premiering in September. It has since become the most successful show ever on the platform. Every now and then, we’re reminded that water-cooler hits can still happen in the age of streaming, and Squid Game is just the latest example. The series’ creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, is less of a household name, though. So, what other Hwang Dong-hyuk movies and shows can you watch if you liked Squid Game?
Despite helming such a megahit — and having a playful “beef” with NBA star LeBron James — Hwang Dong-hyuk has had a relatively low profile and didn’t get any kind of bonus when his creation soared to the top at Netflix. But he’s been creating steadily in South Korea for almost two decades, with four feature films under his belt.

It’s Apple’s best laptop, but you probably don’t need the new MacBook Pro
Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pros last week and after a long wait, we finally have a MacBook Pro lineup that comes with a lot of the things many former “Pro” owners have been asking for after half a decade of frustration. The port selection is not purely USB-C anymore, HDMI makes a comeback, there’s an SD card slot, and no Touch Bar!
With so much to like about the new Macbook Pros, even despite that notch, it feels like a compelling purchase — the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. But I’m here to tell you that you probably don’t need a new MacBook Pro, and nor do I. Here’s why.

5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week – Android Apps Weekly
Welcome to the 404th edition of Android Apps Weekly. Here are the big headlines from the last week:
- It’s apparently possible to have Google’s Magic Eraser feature on non-Pixel phones. The feature is seemingly a Google Photos feature rather than a Pixel feature. Thus, it seems like the Magic Eraser feature works on non-Pixel phones as long as you trick Google Photos into believing that it’s on a Pixel phone. Hit the link to read more.
- Google announced Android 12L this week. This version of Android is mostly for foldable phones and tablets. It features a UI specifically designed for larger screens. We don’t know a lot about it yet. However, the first developer preview is available in Android Studio.
- Google’s Call Screen feature is finally launching in more markets. Initially, it was only available in Japan, the US, and Canada. It’s rolling out to Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK. The rollout is only for the manual version of Call Screen and not the automatic version. That said, it’s still nice to see it launching in other markets.
- The original Android Market launched in 2008 and it wasn’t nearly the thing that it is today. We took a look a look at some early stuff for the Android Market to show you how far the service has come in recent years. Hit the link to read it and learn more.
- Google is letting up on some of its developer fees starting on January 1st, 2022. After that date, developers with subscriptions only have to pay Google a 15% cut instead of the usual 30% cut. This is already a thing if the subscriber goes for longer than a year, but now it’s like that from day one. Some Play Media Experience program members may even get down to 10%. That’s really good news for developers and, hopefully, for us consumers.
- PUBG: New State now has an official launch date of November 11th, 2021. It should launch in 200 countries simultaneously. That is a ridiculously large launch and we expect huge download numbers at the onset. Additionally, there is to be one more technical preview for some folks starting on October 29th. Prepare to hear more in November because it’s happening.

Google Pixel 5 one year later: Is it still worth buying?
The arrival of the Google Pixel 6 also means it’s time to celebrate the Pixel 5‘s first birthday. Even a year later, the phone stands out in Google’s portfolio as one of the more affordable flagships to grace the market in recent years. Google bucked the trend for increasingly expensive $1,000 hardware, focusing instead on its core software experience while trimming $100 off the price of its previous generation hardware.
Google’s decision to adopt more mid-range specs and a lower price point for its 2020 flagship was contentious at the time. Today it begs the question as to whether the phone has aged well over the past year or if it’s already too dated to recommend? Let’s find out in this Google Pixel 5 long-term review.

Apple’s fight with Europe over USB-C is a losing battle — as it should be
Officials within the European Union are hoping to mandate charging standards, and Apple, predictably, isn’t happy about it. Under a floated European Commission proposal, USB-C would become the only standard for wired smartphone charging, since proprietary formats like Apple’s Lightning prevent people from reusing cables and many other accessories. In fact, the initiative would cover more than just phones — headphones, portable speakers, and tablets are just some of the other targeted devices.
In protest, Apple claims that the proposal would stifle innovation, but that was shot down by Anna Cavazzini, the chair of the European Parliament’s consumer protection committee, who pointed out that if something better than USB-C emerged, the rules would adapt. It’s not like Apple is facing an imminent threat either, since standardization would come into force in 2024 at the earliest.

It seems it’s possible to get Google’s Magic Eraser on any Android phone
- The Google Magic Eraser tool is supposed to be a Pixel 6 series exclusive.
- However, it appears you can use the tool if you install a specific version of Google Photos.
- Your mileage may vary with this method, but it does suggest the tool could come to all phones in the future.
Google is shouting from the rooftops about the capabilities of the Tensor chipset inside the Google Pixel 6 series. Apparently, it allows a Pixel 6 phone to perform certain tricks other phones couldn’t pull off.
One of those tricks is the Google Magic Eraser tool. This allows you to take a photo and then, after the fact, erase objects, people, and even background elements from the photo. The tool uses AI smarts to magically fill in the blanks of what you’ve erased to make it look like it was never there.

In some instances, when the Pixel 6 Pro is powered off, a short tap of the power button reveals an odd display flickering issue. For some users on Reddit, the display shows a quick flicker — an almost static-like effect — across the top part of the display. We checked our own Pixel 6 Pro for the display issue, and we can confirm that the flickering is present, though ours happens towards the bottom of the screen.
