How to change the default browser in Windows 11
Windows 11 brings in a bunch of new features and changes. Microsoft released it on October 5, after spending a while in beta. Windows 11 is a bit of a polarizing update, with some nice features, and some changes that aren’t so welcome.
One of the biggest changes in Windows 11 is how the operating system handles the default browser. Not only is Microsoft pushing users to stick to Microsoft Edge as their default browser, but it’s also making it harder than ever to switch away from Microsoft Edge — previous one-click methods of switching the default browser don’t work on Windows 11.
Here’s how you can change the default browser in Windows 11.
Read more: How to install Windows 11
QUICK ANSWER:
To change the default browser in Windows 11, head over to the Default apps section in Windows settings. You can then click on the installed browser of your preference, for example, Google Chrome, and set the default file/link types listed underneath, by clicking on them one by one.
How to change the default browser in Windows 11
Here are the steps to follow to switch away from Microsoft Edge in Windows 11.
- First, make sure to download and install the browser of your choice on your Windows 11 system, like Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - Open Windows Settings. Click on the Apps tab in the left pane, and then click on the Default apps tab in the right pane. Alternatively, you can just search for Default apps in Windows search and open it directly.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - In the Search apps bar, type in the name of your browser of choice. You can also scroll down the list of applications to manually find the browser. For the purpose of this tutorial, we’re using Google Chrome. When you’ve found your browser in the list, click on it.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - You will now see the list of file and link types Google Chrome can open. If Microsoft Edge is set as your default browser, most file and link types will show Microsoft Edge as the default here.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - Click on the tab that reads Microsoft Edge underneath the .htm section. You’ll get a prompt asking you to check Microsoft Edge before you switch away. Click on the Switch anyway button.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - A pop-up will then as you to select your preferred browser for the file/link type. Click on your preferred browser, Google Chrome in this case, and click on OK.
Credit: Palash Volvoikar / Android Authority - Repeat the same for .html, .pdf, .shtml, .xhtml, and any other file type you want to be associated with Google Chrome, especially all the ones that show Microsoft Edge being the default.

That’s it. Microsoft is currently blocking one-click workarounds for this process, so this is the only way to switch away from Microsoft Edge in Windows 11.

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC With 4x Faster AI Performance, Better Graphics Rendering

6 key things you need to know about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the follow-up to its Snapdragon 888 series and its flagship silicon for 2022. As well as a new name, the chipset has a lot else going for it. But what are the highlights and notable facts regarding Qualcomm’s new processor? We’ve got you covered with six things worth knowing about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
1. The first Snapdragon SoC with Armv9 CPU cores
Qualcomm’s new processor is the company’s first to offer Armv9 CPU cores. Yes, the chipset boasts one Cortex-X2 clocked at 3GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores. The latter core in particular is the first little core upgrade since the Snapdragon 845 that powered 2018’s flagships. So expect power and efficiency gains for simple tasks.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 deep dive: Everything you need to know
Another year, time for another flagship-grade Snapdragon mobile platform, although the Groundhog Day vibes are a little more poignant this year. Despite the new name, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the ninth major annual smartphone platform release in the flagship Snapdragon series. It’s also the 18th model in the 8-series, once you total up all the Plus and other variants. Just to make things more confusing, Qualcomm has also decided to drop numbering from its Adreno GPU, Hexagon DSP, and other assorted parts within the chip.
To mark the name change, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 boasts Qualcomm’s first Armv9 CPU cores, a beefed-up 18-bit triple image signal processor (ISP), and better than ever machine learning (ML) number-crunching capabilities. All pretty typical improvements, based on previous years, and there are a few smaller changes tucked away inside the SoC too. So let’s get into exactly what’s new and what we can expect from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 wallpapers just allegedly leaked. Grab them here!
- Some of the Samsung Galaxy S22 wallpapers have allegedly just leaked.
- You can download four of the wallpapers here.
- The source of these walls is vague at the moment, so we’re not sure how credible they are.
In early 2022, we expect Samsung to launch the next iterations of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones. Now, well over a month before that anticipated launch, we have an interesting leak related to the phones.
Below, you’ll find what are allegedly Samsung Galaxy S22 wallpapers. The four wallpapers certainly look legit since they feature the usual abstract and colorful designs we see from Samsung. However, the source of the leak, Android Police, makes no mention of how they obtained them. As such, we’re going to be a little more skeptical of them than usual. We’ve reached out to Android Police to get clarity on this.

What is Quick Charge? How does Qualcomm’s fast charging protocol work?
With smartphone battery capacities increasing alongside the introduction of more power-hungry hardware, fast charging on modern-day smartphones has become a feature most of us take for granted. Many Android devices these days can be fully charged up within an hour or less. And while we have several competing fast-charging protocols in the industry today, Quick Charge was and still is among the most widely used of them all.
In the context of modern handheld smartphones, Quick Charge refers to a power management technology developed by Qualcomm. It’s supported by all Snapdragon SoCs dating back to 2013, although it’s up to device manufacturers to implement. Over the years, however, Quick Charge has seen numerous changes and revisions — some more impactful than others.

Why are your favorite streaming TV shows canceled after one season?
TV has been fundamentally changed by the advent of streaming. It’s not just that cable providers are scrambling to keep subscribers. The basic structure of shows is changing, and the economic models that once determined if something was a hit or not just aren’t relevant now. A show can start trending in its third season once audiences binge their way through earlier episodes. So why are so many streaming TV shows canceled after one season? And why are streamers so eager to make that call?
One of the latest TV shows canceled early was Y: The Last Man. If you’re like me, you may have been surprised to see Y: The Last Man launch without much fanfare. The comic book adaptation premiered exclusively on Hulu as an “FX on Hulu” original in September 2021. Weeks before its finale, though, showrunner Eliza Clark let fans know that FX had declined to renew it for season two via Twitter.

The end of smartphones with headphone jacks is nigh, even on budget devices
The death of the 3.5mm headphone jack on smartphones — all smartphones, that is, not just expensive flagships where it’s already a rarity — is something many of us have been afraid of. But it has been on the horizon since at least 2016, when Apple had the self-proclaimed “courage” to remove the jack from the iPhone 7. Despite attacking that position in marketing, Samsung would eventually join suit with the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019, meaning that the two biggest players in the smartphone world were on board.
In fact, the writing was probably on the wall much earlier. The first major phone to ditch 3.5mm was the Oppo Finder in 2012 — the move was simply premature, since alternative headphones were less practical at the time and Oppo lacked market influence. Apple and Samsung not only had their own wireless earbuds ready to go, but the clout to make the transition stick. Since then, Apple’s AirPods have become wildly successful, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds have plenty of fans too, and it’s increasingly common for phones to ship without any bundled headphones.
