How I made my own Hue light strips for cheap
I’ve experimented with a variety of remote work arrangements over the last decade. From a bedroom setup to a couch or a dining table, I’ve done it all. But when I recently started rebuilding my home office, I knew good lighting and enough of it was going to be essential. This was all the more important because despite having large windows, my apartment just doesn’t get enough natural light. It’s well documented that lighting can affect mood, productivity, and mental health.

The Beats Fit Pro are another headset in Beats’ repertoire of Android and iPhone-friendly true wireless earbuds. Samsung and Google should steal this old LG camera feature

There isn’t a true Windows app for Google Messages and that’s driving me insane
Starting out as Android Messages, Google Messages (which is officially now known as Messages, confusingly) has become the de facto app for texting on Android. Even Samsung — one of the biggest stalwarts when it comes to using proprietary apps for things — offers Messages as the default app on some of its phones. However, as all-encompassing as the app is, one thing that’s missing is a Google Messages Windows app.
“Now, hold on a dang minute,” I can hear you say. “I text from my Windows PC all the time using the web app at messages.google.com.” I’m sure you do, dear reader, but that is not a Windows app and is seriously anemic compared to what a true Windows app could be.

The iPhone SE (2022) can’t compete with the best budget Android phones
Premium iPhones and some of the best Android smartphones might grab all the attention, but mid-range devices remain the bread and butter of all smartphone brands. Even Apple, the poster child of luxury electronics, with the associated price tags, has long had a relatively affordable handset or two in the mix. The launch of the iPhone SE line solidified that stance with a price and feature set that positioned it as the perfect first iPhone, an iPhone for kids, or even as a second phone.
However, a lot has changed in the years since the iPhone SE originally hit the drawing board. For one, there is no dearth of high-quality Android smartphones in the $300 to $500 segment. Moreover, it is possible to pick up an older iPhone with a much superior feature set for not much more money. All this to say, I’ve spent the last two weeks with the iPhone SE (2022) pondering over how to accurately gauge the handset. There’s more to the phone than the hardware proposition would suggest, and that requires taking a long and hard look at the bigger picture, which is what we’re going to do here. For a full deep dive into the iPhone SE (2022) be sure to check out our in-depth review.

Someone found a Google Pixel Watch prototype in a restaurant and leaked it
- Images of what could be a Google Pixel Watch prototype have been posted on the internet.
- The device, which reportedly was left in a US restaurant, looks much like the previously leaked renders of the Pixel Watch.
- The wearable is rumored to make its first appearance at Google I/O in May 2022.
In an incident that seems a bit similar to the leak of the iPhone 4 prototype over 10 years ago, Android Central has posted images of what appears to be a Google Pixel Watch prototype. The photos come from an anonymous source, who claimed to have found the device in a restaurant somewhere in the US.
The device does appear to look very similar to previously leaked renders of the reported Pixel Watch. According to the anonymous source, the wearable also came with a box that stated that the device was for “internal testing and development only.” It also said that the “markings and packaging are not final.” That means the final product could have some differences compared to this reported prototype.

What is Reddit karma and how do you get it?
Many social media sites don’t track the actual number of likes or dislikes you get. While you can see some of your activity history, sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram don’t typically flaunt your feedback in a score-based format. Reddit, on the other hand, is not your run-of-the-mill social media site. When you add a new post or comment, how other users respond to it will directly influence your account’s overall “karma” score. If you care about your reputation and how you appear virtually, you’re going to want to know what karma is on Reddit—and how to get more.

Google Pixel Watch: Everything we know so far (Updated: April 22)
Original article: The Google Pixel Watch is the wearable industry’s version of Bigfoot. For the better part of a decade, rumors that the smartwatch is, in fact, real have come and gone. However, its existence has grown substantially more likely throughout 2022.
But what do we know about the Google Pixel Watch so far? We round up the latest details below.

Everything you hate about Apple could change thanks to leaked EU bill
- The EU is working on a bill that would target “gatekeeper” companies.
- The bill could force Apple to open up its services and work with competitors.
- This could have dramatic changes for Apple products such as iMessage, FaceTime, and more.
A bill making its way through the European Union could spell major trouble for Apple but bring welcome changes for everyone else.
The EU has a well-established reputation for tackling Big Tech, often taking measures the US refuses to take in the interest of protecting consumers. The EU is now pursuing legislation — the Digital Markets Act (DMA) — that would force Apple to open up most of its services and start playing nice with others.

OK, we finally have proof: A Pixel Watch is almost certainly on the way
- Google has officially filed a trademark for a product called Pixel Watch.
- This is the strongest evidence yet that a Google-branded smartwatch is on the way soon.
- It’s possible the watch could land as early as next month at Google I/O, although that’s still a very shaky rumor.
For literally years now, we’ve heard rumor after rumor about a Google-branded smartwatch being in the works. As the years have passed without anything materializing, we’ve become quite skeptical that it would ever come at all.
Recently, the rumor mill has been churning once more for a Google Pixel Watch. While there’s been some strong evidence thus far, everything has been leaked from unknown sources. Now, though, we have evidence directly from the source (via 9to5Google). Today, we have a trademark filing from Google for a product called “Pixel Watch.”

ALAC bug left millions of Android devices vulnerable to takeover
- A major vulnerability impacted the vast majority of 2021 Android phones.
- The issue is caused by compromised ALAC audio code.
- The vulnerable code was included in MediaTek and Qualcomm audio decoders.
A bug in the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) impacts two-thirds of Android devices sold in 2021, leaving unpatched devices vulnerable to takeover.
ALAC is an audio format developed by Apple for use in iTunes in 2004, providing lossless data compression. After Apple open-sourced the format in 2011, companies worldwide adopted it. Unfortunately, as Check Point Research points out, while Apple has updated its own version of ALAC over the years, the open source version was not updated with security fixes since it was made available in 2011. As a result, an unpatched vulnerability was included in chipsets made by Qualcomm and MediaTek.
