iOS users can now use Switch to Android app for non-Pixel phones
- Google’s Switch to Android app now works for phones that aren’t Pixels.
- The iOS app will work with any phone running Android 12 or higher.
- As before, you can transfer iPhone info to your new Android phone using a cable or wirelessly.
For a really long time, Apple has offered an app on the Google Play Store to help Android users switch to iOS. That app — called Move to iOS — didn’t have an official Android equivalent for years. Finally, Google offered a competitor product in April 2022.
However, the official Switch to Android app for iOS only worked for Pixel phones. In other words, you could easily switch from an iPhone to an Android phone, but the only Android phones that worked were Google’s own Pixels. Today, though, that limitation is gone. Now iOS users can switch to any Android phone running Android 12 or higher.

The Pixel Watch might support iPhone connections after all
- There’s hope that the Pixel Watch could support iPhone connections.
- The Montblanc Summit 3 is powered by Wear OS 3, like the Pixel Watch, and it supports the iPhone.
- Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 likely could connect to iPhones, but Samsung probably disabled this feature.
Wear OS 3 is the most recent version of Google’s wearable operating system. However, it only officially appears on one device: the Galaxy Watch 4. Other watches will get the update to Wear OS 3 eventually, but that hasn’t happened yet.
One of the interesting things about the Galaxy Watch 4 is that it’s Android-only. Other Wear OS watches — such as the popular Fossil Gen 6 — run on Wear OS and support iPhone connections. At first, we figured this Android-only exclusivity was due to Wear OS 3 itself, but it appears that’s not the case.

Now, in 2022, the company is poised to launch its second hardware product: the Nothing Phone 1.

Original article: May 15, 2022 (2 PM ET): Apple’s formula doesn’t leave much room for out-of-the-box thinking. Each new generation of Apple Watch tends to look, cost, and function essentially the same as the year before. However, the company consistently makes improvements large and small, and we anticipate the Series 8 to be much the same. From a rumored low-power mode to a possible rugged model, there is plenty to keep an eye out for in the coming months. Let’s take a look at everything we know about the Apple Watch Series 8 so far, and run down some of the features that we hope to see.

Can Carl Pei make lightning strike twice with the Nothing Phone 1?
The original OnePlus was a watershed moment in smartphone history. By stripping down the smartphone to its essentials — performance and value — the company clenched its claim to fame as the maker of the first affordable flagship. More importantly, it was the non-trivial task of creating a community of die-hard fans willing to take a bet on an unknown company and part with cold, hard cash that set the brand apart. And for the most part, it came down to one person — Carl Pei. And now he’s back at it again with the Nothing Phone 1.

It’s 2022 and blockchain smartphones still make no sense
Most people will agree that the smartphone industry is in desperate need of disruption. Outside of the foldable market, we’ve seen very little in terms of innovation and feature differentiation over recent years. So when a young startup with a pedigreed team announces that it’s building a smartphone to challenge that status quo, it’s hard not to get a little bit excited.
That’s exactly what happened when we first heard about the privacy-focused OSOM OV1 smartphone last year. In case you’re unfamiliar with the OSOM brand, it’s a new startup established by former Essential employees.

OnePlus 11 Pro: Everything we know so far and what we want to see
Originally, we saw a very regular smartphone release schedule from OnePlus. There was a standard flagship phone in the first half of the year and a “T” upgrade in the second half. At this point, though, things are way more confusing. In 2023, the only sure thing to expect would be the OnePlus 11 Pro, as we’ve seen a new Pro phone every year since the OnePlus 7 Pro back in 2019.
Regardless of the company’s ever-more-confusing portfolio, the OnePlus 11 Pro could end up being one of the better phones from the brand. But what should we expect and what do we want to see? Here’s what we know and our wishlist for the OnePlus 11 Pro.

The best NEW Android games from June 2022
Android gaming is getting bigger and better every month it seems and there is always a slew of new titles coming to Google Play. Whether you’re a casual gamer or you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, there’s usually a game coming out to suit everyone’s taste. Some months are better than others, but there is usually at least one great new game on mobile every month. Let’s take a look at the best new Android games from the last month! You can also check out our picks for the best new Android games released in all of 2021.
An honorable mention for this month is Ni No Kuni: Cross World (Google Play). The gameplay is reasonably decent. However, some unfortunate decisions with in-game crypto caused bot spam to the point where legit players are stuck in queues instead of playing. Should Apple M2 iPads worry the Pixel Tablet crowd?
Apple is forging ahead with its custom-silicon efforts, announcing its next-generation Apple M2 chipset at WWDC 2022. While initially heading to a new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, it surely won’t be long until an M2-powered iPad Pro and iPad Air arrive as well. The new iPad Pro model is rumored to launch as soon as fall 2022, although it may not be available to buy until later.
iPads are already the best tablets in the business and the M2 poses an even bigger purchasing conundrum for those looking forward to the Google Pixel Tablet, which isn’t set to launch until sometime in 2023. Not only will the new iPads likely be available to buy sooner, but they’re shaping up to be far more powerful than anything Google could hope to put on the market.

How to convert Apple HEIC images to JPG format
As a way of enabling users to take and store more photos on their devices, Apple introduced the HEIC format in 2017. It stands for High-Efficiency Image Container and generally takes up about half the space of an equivalent quality JPG file. The color quality is far superior as well. Despite these benefits though, HEIC is not recognized by other operating systems and a lot of apps, so people generally find HEIC a bit annoying if they want to share something with someone. Therefore, you would have to convert the HEIC image to JPG.

Google Maps should have a way to block businesses
I use Google Maps nearly every day. I use it for directions, obviously, but I also use it the way most people use Yelp — for restaurant suggestions. I’ll also fire up the Maps app if I need train schedules, to find the nearest restroom at an airport, or to discover what an area’s places of interest might be. It is, without a doubt, one of my most-used apps.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. In fact, there’s a huge problem with the app that drives me insane: the lack of an ability to block businesses from search results. This would seem like a fundamental feature, but Google just won’t deliver it.

The iPad Air convinced me that the post-PC world is almost here
Packing the same power as the very well-reviewed MacBook Air (2020), all-day battery life, and cellular connectivity, the latest iPad Air is really just a MacBook Air in a different, and perhaps better form factor. Even Apple screams it out loud in its advertising: “Your next computer is not a computer.”
And yet, 12 years since the introduction of the iPad, we’re not quite in the post-PC world just yet. Over the last few years, Apple has made ample moves to bring more PC-like features to its tablet — be it a better file manager, robust cursor support, and even dual monitor support with the upcoming iPadOS 16. On the flip side, macOS has also been getting more iPad-like with every subsequent update.

You can already have Apple’s new CarPlay experience today
While the focus of Apple’s WWDC 2022 keynote was on Macs and OS updates, the company used one short segment to do something unusual — preview technology that’s coming not by the end of the year, but almost a year and a half later. Specifically a major expansion of CarPlay, the iOS feature that bridges iPhones with car infotainment systems. As you’ll see, Apple is really playing catch-up with Android Automotive, which is in vehicles as we speak. Long-term, it’s likely concerned with the groundwork for the Apple Car, as well as fending off a Google-based future.
